New Abita, Sah'Tea

Hot on the heels of Abita’s springtime fruit beer, the Harvest Strawberry (one six pack still in stock, $8.99) comes their latest offering: Satsuma Wit. Made with Louisiana-grown satsuma, which I guess is a kind of small citrus fruit akin to a mandarin orange?, this beer could take one of two tracks while interpretating the witbier style. While classic Belgian wits tend to take the spicing of the beer with a degree of measured caution, American brewers by and large overspice and overflavor their wits for our sweet-toothed populace (see Blue Moon and Shocktop for examples). Abita’s past would lead me to believe they’ll skew toward subtlety and make this a light summery treat. Abita Satsuma Wit is $8.99 and available for a limited time.

Just to clear things up: Three Floyds Apocalypse Cow is out of stock and gone for the year. Hope you got a crack at it.

Torpedo Returns with a new friend

The last Torpedo slipped out of this store May 13th... fully six weeks later it’s back, but who knows for how long. The distributor had 13 cases available yesterday, we took most of those. With luck, our supply will hold until the next Sierra drop (whenever that is).

Along with fresh Torpedo (bottled 6/9/09) we got our first taste of Sierra’s newest year-round beer, Kellerweis hefeweizen. Brewed using time honored techniques and ingredients, this should be a delicious alternative to the American Pale Wheat ale they used to brew (the standard Wheat has been discontinued in favor of this new more flavorful recipe). Good luck Kellerweis!
